Philadelphia born and raised, Melissa T knows the meaning of soul, rhythm, and blues. Philly soul is so intricately woven into every melody and crystal clear note she sings that upon hearing the first few words vibrate from her vocal chords, you have no other choice but to pause and pay attention. As you listen closely, you will find that within those passionate lyrics, Melissa T is singing about the gospel of Jesus. Inspired by Jazz, Hip Hop, Gospel, and Folk music, Melissa aims to combine these influences into a modern fusion that journeys the listener through some of life’s joys, pains, mysteries and musings.
Melissa fell in love with music around the age of five. Elementary school performances did well to nurture her curiosity and give her a space to practice. She was led by music’s compelling power to shape and convey the heart of the listener with mere words, harmonics, and emotion. Once she discovered her own vocal abilities, Melissa began to study what she heard on the radio from various gospel singers and the like. She devoured everything she heard, and overtime found her own niche through songwriting and her beloved Radio Shack keyboard.
Melissa’s debut EP, Where Is The Love? will be released on August 11, 2016 via most digital outlets (iTunes, Soundcloud, Tidal, Spotify, Google Play) . The project will feature three original songs and a cover, with two production tracks attributed to her team. Thus far in her career, Melissa has collaborated with a diverse group of artists including Shai Linne, Stephen the Levite, Dave Hackley, B3ar Fruit, Leah Smith and numerous Live events such as the Willingboro Jazz Festival and World Cafe Live to name a few.
Melissa’s goal is to make honest music that points people to Jesus as the only one who can truly save. Melissa currently resides in Camden, NJ with her husband Trevor and daughter Zoe. In the Fall, her family will embark on a new journey to plant a church in the city of Baltimore.
